Last August we visited my parents at the lake. It's an annual trip we make each summer, wouldn't miss it for anything. Usually we just hang around the lake, hike the hill, ride bikes in Carnation, pick berries, work in the garden, shoot the guns and eat lots of good food on the deck.....
This year we ventured out! I wanted to take a ferry ride because it'd been too long. So we loaded up and headed to Whidbey Island for the day. It was a BEAUTIFUL Northwest day, the kind I remember as a child, but even more fun to share it with my own children.
The boys with grandma and grandpa in the front of the ferry to watch take off.
These two are never far apart from each other when they're together.
There are lots of bunkers to explore...
and beautiful views in every direction.
We spent the first part of the afternoon exploring the old bunkers and actual fort, then we had a picnic up on the field before heading down to the beach. I loved our time on the beach. We just sat around talking, collecting rocks, exploring the many drift wood forts and chasing the birds & waves. My dad spontaniously shared a story from his childhood, I love it when either of my parents do that, and I even fell asleep for a few minutes in the warm sun.
To finish off the day I dipped my toes in the cool water. I snapped a picture since I'm not to keen on having anything but my feet photographed when I'm pregnant:)
Not all days are equal, but this was a day to remember....and remember it I will!

Love the pic of dad and kevin! That is a choice one. And when did you get the same shoes as me? Those pics bring back a lot of memories. So glad you got to go! Your family is darling!
