I've been re-reading the book Food Rules by Michael Pollan. It's the greatest little book. I keep it in my bathroom,(where I do all my reading)and read one rule at a time.
I thought if would be fun to share a few of my favorite rules considering I "did my best" to eat an entire Lindt chocolate bunny by myself yesterday, which was not what I had in mind when I posted about "doing my best."
Clearly I need a refresher, so here are a few of my favorites.
Rule #13: Eat only foods that will eventually rot.
Rule #20: It's not food if it arrived through the window of your car.
Rule #2: Don't eat anything your great-grandmother wouldn't recognize.
My grandma Addie wouldn't recognize half of what's sold in a supermarket today. It's scary how many "food like" products we have don't start with or even resemble REAL food.
Rule #36: Don't eat breakfast cereals that change the color of the milk.
Rule #37: "The whiter the bread, the sooner you'll be dead."
Rule #52: Eating what stands on one leg(broccoli) is better than eating what stands on two legs(fowl), which is better than eating what stands on four legs (pigs, cows).
I'm not hating on cows though, my grandpa was a cow man, and a cowboy:) I like cows.
Rule #21: It's not food if it's called by the same name in every language.(Big Mac,Cheetos, Pringles)
Rule #3: Avoid food products containing ingredients that no ordinary human would keep in the pantry.
There you have it, some food for thought. If you too want to have this book in your bathroom you can get it here. I promise it's very motivating, even from the toilet!
Here's to keeping all the rules today, at least the easy ones:)
Darci

Love these rules...and they make so much sense!

Great rules and beautiful photos! Did you take these pics? Gorgeous!
By the way, when will you be teaching another class at BPC? I took your "Baker's Dozen" class last year and had a GREAT time!
Thanks for the joy!

That's one of my favorite books! (And is what got me to stop using running goos and gels, and drinking powdered drinks, etc., etc.) It's kind of scary when you stop and think about what is marketed as "food" but isn't really food.

Love that book! My fave is #44 -- Pay more, eat less. I read that one to my husband when he complains about the price of organic milk.
