I like to listen to a local talk radio show in the morning when I run errands. There is a commercial that plays often and the tag line is;
Family...it's about TIME.
I was thinking about this yesterday, and it dawned on me that LOVE is really about TIME. I can stay up late to make a cute Valentine box for Kevin, I can set a darling Valentine breakfast table, and load my blog with cool ideas for Valentines Day but LOVE is not about that...it's about TIME. Yesterday I must have heard a hundred times, "Mom will you play with me?"
It was a busy day. I had a list a mile long of things that needed to be accomplished. Then I realized that I've been spewing about LOVE for days now and if I don't have TIME for the people I LOVE... I'm missing the boat! So I stopped and PLAYED.
I played Yahtzee.
Cache beat me both times. Cache has a ferocious cup shake that clearly works to his advantage.
I played Paper Dolls.
Brooklyn has the most vivid imagination. Her ability to make dolls talk and interact for long periods of time is nothing shy of amazing. It's a crack up to play make-believe with her.
I have to be honest. It wasn't easy to stop what I was doing and PLAY. I wish I was better at it. I wish I wasn't so task oriented. I'm afraid that to often I put off the people I LOVE to accomplish something for them, when really what they would LOVE is my full attention.
So I will practice and make a conscience effort to celebrate the season of LOVE by showing it with my TIME, because that's what LOVE is really about.

Great post. It's so important not to let those times go by. I wish I would have learned that lesson better but at least, as a Grandma, I'm getting another chance!

"Its not easy to stop and play" Been there done that. Know the feeling. Another chance for motherhood guilt. With 6 children, I tell everyone, you just have to juggle, juggle, juggle.
